What comes to mind when you think of Bermuda? Pirates and shipwrecks? A triangle of dangerous water? Then be prepared to be pleasantly surprised when you arrive at this beautiful tropical paradise.
Bermuda, a self-governing British territory, is a collection of islands off the coast of the eastern United States. Famous for its pink sandy beaches and miles of coastline, Bermuda retains many quintessential British traditions such as cricket and afternoon tea. Visitors will feel they have arrived at a home away from home.
Bermuda is bursting with things for the whole family to enjoy. For the water lover, beaches abound along with water sports such as snorkeling, windsurfing and parasailing. Each resort offers a schedule of water activities for their guests or you can discover your own fun at beautiful Hamilton Harbor. For the golfer, Bermuda offers a wide array of courses. One of the newest, Belmont Hills, is a semi-private club at which visitors are welcome. The beautiful greens at Belmont Hills wind around the coastline giving you magnificent views of the turquoise sea.
You will want to rent a cycle or moped, (no rental cars, here), to explore the island. In St. George, the oldest continually inhabited settlement in the New World, you will step back in time as you meander down it’s cobbled, winding streets. Historic forts also mark the island. One of the most beautiful, St. Catherine, was built in 1612 and manned until 1957. St. Catherine’s is a wonderful spot for a relaxing afternoon of exploring and a picnic.
Make sure to include a trip to the village of Hamilton in your itinerary. Along with fabulous restaurants and local hang outs you will discover Front Street. A small street along the harbor, Front Street is the place to shop in Bermuda. You will find local items mixed along with duty free items. Be sure to buy yourself a wonderful reminder of your trip.
Your Bermuda vacation will begin and end at the Lt. Wade International Airport. Located in St. George Parish, ten miles from Hamilton, the airport serves over ten different carriers with flights arriving and departing throughout the day. Visitors are charged a $25 departure fee which is automatically added to your ticket price.
